At first, their were The Threads. They were beings of unexplained power, worshiped and revered by many to be gods. They controlled the essence, the flow of the universe, being able to not just manipulate it with a thought, but also create and destroy it. They created the races that we know of today, using them as worshipers in order to expand upon their power. They accomplished this by hindering the advancement of civilization's power and technology, fearing they would one day destroy them, otherwise. Due to this fear, they were ruthless tyrants to all who opposed them, mercilessly killing anyone who dared speak in defiance. They reigned for several millennia before their rule came crashing down to the ground. The reasons for their sudden downfall are unknown, being frequently discussed between the few scholars that believed that this had taken place.
